Some Tips for having your own Luau or Tiki
party
Setting
the stage for your own luau will be surprisingly easy.
In the old days people sat on mat covered ground with very low
tables for their food. Today long picnic tables are covered with
hawaiian Tapa Print Tableclothes. The centerpieces are usually
very lavish and one person is assigned this task well in advance.
But for your purposes a tropical flower arrangement or a basket
of fruit, (tropical) if at all possible will be adequate.
Flowers everywhere is ideal. Luaus have flowers and tropical
foliage everywhere. They symbolize beauty and happiness. Setup
your Tables outside if it is possible. Luaus were always held out
in the open under the eyes of the Gods. If you are able to be
outside don't forget to include torches in your scheme.
In the days of old, guests were greeted with a flower lei. If at
all possible make or order a lei for each guest. If it is not
possible to get flower leis then give them a shell or simulated
silk lei. Also, a ti leaf lei is very nice. Ti leaf leis can be
ordered well in advance and kept in the freezer indefinitely.
They can also be returned to the freezer after they have been
used for future use.
Music! Hawaiian music should be floating through the air non stop.
It is what set's the atmosphere. If you have a hula troop in your
area you may want to consider hiring them for at least an hour.
Drinks! Why not offer your guest a tropical drink to enhance the
mood. Be your own bartender as it's easy and fun, you can even
use the recipes below to create the best tasting tropical drinks.
They are truly easy and all of the ingredients are available at
your local market. All of these drinks can be made without
alcohol and still add to the atmosphere!
Remember to greet all your guest with a warm and heartfelt aloha!!
